Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands’ (HFH) mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. Habitat houses are sold to families, not handed to them. Families help to build their own home. By building homes at low cost, requiring no down payment, and by not charging interest on the mortgage, it’s a “hand up”. This is a poem written by the 16 yr old daughter of a HFH home recipient.
“Thank You” By Chantal Paquette
“A miracle happens only once in awhile,
We just had to keep going that extra mile.
We were patient and waited a whole seven years,
Now we are filled with devotion expressing in tears.
We now have something to call our own,
We finally have this place called HOME”….
“We now have the courage; we now have the might,
To take the next step in our brand new life”…
I chose HFH because there are a lot of good people that deserve a hand-up and the positive impact a home can make to a family for generations is immeasurable. Being my first and only big trek, I know I’m going to have to give it “the extra mile”, but I like a challenge! An opportunity like this may happen only once and with a lot of effort, I will arrive at Everest Base Camp and can only anticipate its beauty along the way. Dream Mountains makes this journey possible by helping me accomplish this trek up Everest while giving by helping those in need. Please donate now toward my goal of $5000 (100% goes to charity) and help families achieve a home of their own while helping break the cycle of poverty right here in our community.
