Things happen for a reason…In April, 2015, a small group of adventurous, service driven people will be trekking to one of the highest mountain peaks in the world, Mount Everest. Led by the Dream Mountains Foundation, trekking 7 mountains and a goal to raise money for 7 different charities, over 7 years.
I have just been given the distinct and unique opportunity to climb with this amazing group of individuals, one step at a time, for the support and charity SOS villages. I will be trekking to raise $5000 in support of SOS, to Base Camp Everest (BCE), where we will also visit one of these villages in Nepal, which your funds will help to support. Around the world, SOS Children’s Villages provides loving homes for children who have been abandoned and orphaned where their basic needs for food, health, shelter and education are met. Since 1949, SOS Children’s Villages has been guided by a basic principle: a loving home for every child. They are the world’s largest charity working with orphaned and abandoned children.
Since October I have been on a wait list, and as the Universe would have it, I am now officially part of the team. I am just out of the gate and could really use your help to achieve this goal for a worthy and necessary charity for orphaned children across the world. Through this charitable climb, we will all have the opportunity to have an impact in the lives of children in need. I have always had a passion to volunteer and provide “service above self”, and a dream of doing so internationally and participating in such an event is coming to fruition.
On a personal note, last July I had surgery for removal of a cancerous tumor. Upon reaching the pinnacle of our trek, it will be a year since my diagnosis and the mountain I had to climb from 2014 will be behind me. This will also serve as a celebration of life lived on earth, and living every day to the fullest, with gratitude for what we have been given and the challenges we have overcome.
With all of our busy lives, we can get ahead of ourselves and take things for granted, in this beauty of a world we live in. I ask of you to help me in my climb, one step at a time, one donation at a time.
